Benton Spotlight

BENTON SPOTLIGHT

We can't do what we do without YOU!

Thanks for creating opportunities and inspiring hope for a better tomorrow.

All over Benton & Lincoln Counties, people are rolling up their sleeves and giving, advocating, and volunteering. On these pages, we want to tell you about a few of them, and highlight the work we're doing here in Benton county.

Day of Caring

On Friday, September 25, 2009, and army of more than 800 orange-clad volunteers representing 28 different workplaces and organizations canvassed Benton County completing nearly 100 service projects.

You painted. Washed windows. Did yard work. And various spring cleaning chores. You conducted a car wash. Beyond the painting, mulching, cleaning, weeding, invasive species removal, labeling storm drains, and building, you made a difference in the lives of hundreds of Benton County residents.

I dont have enough words to describe adequately the gratitude that we at United Way feel for all those participating in Day of Caring. A simple, heartfelt THANK YOU will have to suffice.

THANK YOU to a dedicated group of volunteers who spent 6 months planning and preparing for Day of Caring: Shawn Collins (HP), Kris Winter (OSU), Corrie Schwab (OSU), and Steve McGettigan (City of Corvallis Parks & Rec), Shelly Yutzie (The Corvallis Clinic) and United Way staff Andrea Arzner & Dawson Officer.

THANK YOU to the 38 agencies and organizations providing projects for our volunteers.

THANK YOU to United Way Board Members, and Board President Shelley Vitus and Mayor Charlie Tomlinson who welcomed folks to our first morning rally. Over 200 eager volunteers and arrived at Parker Plaza in front of Reser Stadium before 8:00 am!

THANK YOU to Oregon State University students, faculty, and staff for participating in the event for the first time. We had 25 teams, 40 team leads, and over 400 participating students.

THANK YOU to local businesses for supporting volunteer teams: Aptina, Barker-Uerlings, Benton County Sheriffs Office, Central Willamette Community Credit Union, CH2M Hill, City of Corvallis, Fiserv, Hewlett Packard, Hilton Garden Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Insights Now!, Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, Sterling Savings Bank, Umpqua Bank, and US Bank.

And finally, THANK YOU to our many wonderful sponsors: Allann Brothers, Allied Waste, Baja Fresh, Clodfelters, Coffee Culture, the Corvallis Clinic, The Corvallis Clinic Foundation, Costco, D&B Custom Shirtworks, Francescos, Hewlett Packard, HP REC Club, Miller Paint, OSU Powered by Orange, OSU Catering, OSU Recreational Sports, OSU Retirees, Papas Pizza, Pepsi, popchips!, Qdoba Mexican Grill, Robnetts Hardware, Ruby Tuesday, Sherwin-Williams, Soup Shop, Special Occasions, and University Hero.
